How do I make a shortcut that directly opens my data file?

In this example, we are using MYOB AccountRight Plus version 19 and the data file is called ABC Company.MYO.

Using Windows XP & Windows 7 - on an empty area on your desktop, do a right click and select NEW - SHORTCUT. Click on the BROWSE button and go to where your data file is stored (in this example the C:\Plus19 folder).

Double click on your data file (in this example ABC Company.MYO) and then click on the NEXT button. Give the shortcut a meaningful name and then click on the FINISH button.

You should now have a new shortcut on your desktop. Do a right click on the newly created shortcut and select PROPERTIES. In the target line, click on the text and then type the following:

C:\Plus19\MYOB.EXE “C:\Plus19\ABC Company.MYO”

Click on the OK button to accept these changes.

Double clicking the shortcut should now start MYOB and automatically open your data file.

Please note that MYOB Version 14 and earlier, data files end in .DAT, not .MYO.

So now you don't have to open MYOB and then browse to your data file every time, you just double click the shortcut and it opens straight into your datafile saving you a bit of time! :P

Great idea!!

I've lost count of the number of times I've been asked to help people find the right MYOB data path!

MYOB defaults to the last location you used; so every time you do a backup the next time you login it goes to the backup path instead of your normal data path.

This is obviously very frustrating for users who are not familiar with this, so a short-cut is an ideal solution.

Thanks Kelly for the tip.
