The end of financial year is almost upon us and it is time to start thinking about sending your datafile off to your accountant.

Sometimes, the file is too big to email - so what are your options?

If you are using MYOB, you can choose to back-up the company file and M-powered services only. This may make the file size small enough to send - and only cuts out the unnecessary data, like your invoice templates etc.

If you are sending bank statement copies and other data at the same time, send them in a separate email (in PDF if possible).

Still too big? The other option is to backup to a CD or USB stick and post to your accountant (yes that's right - snail mail still exists!).

And, if you are a client of Imprest, you have another option. You can use our free Client Connect program, which allows us to upload your datafile to a secure site, ready for your accountant to download.

In each case, make sure that when you name your file you include your company name and the period (e.g. MyCompanyEOFY2010_280710).

And here's an important tip - when you are ready to send your data to the accountant - always lock the period you are working on, so no changes can be made. It can be very frustrating if both you and your accountant are working with two different sets of figures!
