Using the windows Key

Do you use the ‘Windows’ key on your keyboard? Or are you like many and you’re not sure what it does? Apart from opening the start menu, here are some of the shortcuts that you can use in conjunction with the “windows” key.

For Windows XP
Use the Windows logo with….
+ Break - Displays the “System Properties” dialog box
+ D - Display your Desktop
+ M - Minimise all windows
+ Shift + M - Restore all minimised windows
+ E - Open “My Computer”
+ F - Opens the file or folder search function.
+ CTRL + F - Search for computers on your network.
+ L - Lock the keyboard
+ R - Open the “RUN” dialog box

For Windows 7
Use the Windows logo with….
+up Arrow - Maximize the current window
+Down Arrow - If the current window is maximized, restore it; if the current window is restored, minimize it
+Home - Minimize all but the current window
+M - Minimize all open windows
+Shift+M - Undo all window minimization
+Left Arrow - Dock the current window to the left half of the screen
+Right Arrrow - Dock the current window to the right half of the screen
+P - Open the projection menu (generally used for laptops connected to projectors)
+T - Cycle through applications on taskbar (showing its live preview)
+D - Toggle showing the desktop

All good tips Steph - Thanks!

I must admit that I had never used the windows key before but will start using it now!! If only there weren't so many to remember!

Am thinking that I might laminate an index card to keep by my keyboard so that I can have all these shortcuts handy. (Until I learn them all!!)
